2 cups flour
1/2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 Tbsp butter, room temperature
1/2 cup milk (more if needed)
Combine dry ingredients. Using an electric mixer or pastry blender, mix in butter until mix is as grainy as cornmeal. Slowly add milk. Knead 5 minutes. Roll out a fistful at a time to 1/8 inch or thinner on lightly floured surface. Cut into 2-inche squares. Place on baking sheet, not touching. Sprinkle with salt. Prick each square with a fork. Bake at 300 degrees until golden brown.
I was reading in The Joy of Cooking cookbook this morning that any bread recipe can be made into a cracker. Roll the dough out 1/8 inch thick, cut into shapes and place about 1 inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 450 about 6-9 minutes, until light brown. It suggested using doughs like pizza dough, naan or brioche.
